The reproduction of music protected by copyright gives rise to the right to collect these rights, even at public events which are not intended to make a profit.

Regarding the collection of royalties, the STJ confirmed the understanding that musical compositions or works of a similar nature may not, without the author's authorization, be broadcast by radio, loudspeaker service, television or other means, nor performed at public shows or public hearings, "even when the public event is not intended and/or does not make a profit".

With this position, updated in November 2023, the effects of the legal determination regarding the right to collect amounts corresponding to copyright in non-profit shows and events are maintained.
